Gold Nuggets clinch RRAC Tournament berth

        HARAHAN, La. — Xavier University of Louisiana softball clinched one of the eight spots in the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament despite 11-0 and 7-4 losses Friday to NAIA No. 24 Texas A&M-Texarkana at Harahan Playground's Wilcox Field.
        The Gold Nuggets (15-21 overall, 10-18 RRAC) concluded their league schedule and will be the No. 7 seed in the tournament May 1-4 at Pineville, La., and Alexandria, La.
        Next for the Gold Nuggets will be a rescheduled non-conference doubleheader against NCAA Division I Southern University. No date or venue has been determined.
        TAMUT (36-8, 22-4) allowed no earned runs and outhit XULA 27-10 in the doubleheader. All the Gold Nuggets' hits were singles.

Game 1
        Madison Dingman was 4-for-4 and scored three times, Kasen Morkisch was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, and Grace Cantu hit a two-run homer for the Eagles. Rylee Glenn (14-1) and Charli Miller combined on the shutout, TAMUT's 13th this season.

Game 2
        Both teams committed four errors, and none of the 11 runs was earned. Miya Covington scored on a first-inning infield throwing error to give XULA its only lead. TAMUT tied the score in the second and went ahead to stay with four runs in the third. Madison Winston and Amaya Williams hit run-scoring singles for XULA in the seventh.
        Winston and Arin Dale had two hits and two walks apiece in the doubleheader, and Dale stole three bases. Dingman led TAMUT with six hits, all in her first six at-bats, and three stolen bases.
