Eagles fly past Gold Nuggets

HOOKS, Texas — Xavier University of Louisiana lost 9-0 and 10-0 to NAIA No. 23 Texas A&M-Texarkana in Red River Athletic Conference softball Monday. Both games ended in the fifth inning because of the 8-run mercy rule.
It was the second of five road doubleheaders in seven days for XULA.
Next for the Gold Nuggets (12-14 overall, 8-12 Red River) will be a 2 p.m. Tuesday conference doubleheader at NAIA No. 6 LSU-Alexandria. Start time was pushed back two hours to help the field dry after recent rain. Live video of those games will be offered on YouTube at www.youtube.com/@xulasoftball/streams.
The Eagles (32-6, 18-2) have won four straight and 21 of their last 22 games.

Game 1
Winning pitcher Rylee Glenn (12-0) allowed two hits — Arin Dale's single down the left-field line to lead off the game and Kiera Evans' third-inning bunt single — walked none, hit a batter and struck out eight. Presley Humphrey hit two run-scoring doubles, and Briana DeLeon had three RBIs.

Game 2
The Eagles' Alexis Snyder (6-2) and Mia Perez combined on a one-hitter. Evans doubled to center field with one out in the fifth. Kasen Morkisch had three hits and two RBIs, and Jaquelyn Schmidt's triple to center scored Macey Cutsinger with the first of six runs in the third.
