Big Easy Blastoff schedule
NEW ORLEANS — Blue Mountain Christian defeated Xavier University of Louisiana 25-17, 25-20, 26-24 in women's volleyball Saturday to deny XULA a share of first place in its Big Easy Blastoff.
The Toppers (7-2) finished 3-1 in the five-team event and shared first place with Doane. The Gold Nuggets tied for third at 2-2 with Cumberland.
Valeria Velez served five of her six aces in the first set, and Marissa Gerleman hit .320 with 10 kills for BMC.
Kamea Uitenham hit .280 with 10 kills and two blocks for XULA,
Kennedy Campbell had seven kills, four blocks and eight digs, and
Taylor Parker had five blocks.
Campbell and
Charity Metcalf were XULA's representatives on the nine-member all-tournament team. Campbell's 47 kills tied for first in the Blastoff with Doane's Natalie Wood, and Metcalf's 86 assists ranked second.
XULA will travel to Austin, Texas, for the Rams Fall Classic. The Gold Nuggets will play host Huston-Tillotson in the opening match at 6 p.m. Thursday.
