AUSTIN, Texas — Sophomore
Kamea Uitenham produced 11 kills and a career-high five aces Saturday, leading Xavier University of Louisiana in a 25-15, 25-12, 25-22 women's volleyball victory against Howard Payne at the Rams Fall Classic.
The Gold Nuggets (9-3) finished 3-1 in the five-team, three-day event and gave the Lady Jackets (6-1) their first loss of the season. XULA will play host to city rival Dillard at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Convocation Center.
Uitenham hit .409 in 22 attacks. During the first set Uitenham had two aces, five kills and no errors in six attacks.
XULA freshman
Kendall Evans hit .389 with a season-best 10 kills.
Taylor Parker hit .538 with eight kills and three blocks,
Kennedy Campbell hit .500 with seven kills and two blocks, and
Laila Person hit .714 with five kills and three blocks.
Sydney Murray served three aces, and
Felise Jones had 20 assists and two aces.
Tara Bennett produced 11 kills, eight digs and two blocks for Howard Payne, an NCAA Division III member.
XULA outhit Howard Payne .382 to .172 and had advantages of 43-31 in kills, 11-4 in aces and 41-33 in digs. For the tournament XULA hit .315 and averaged 14.91 kills per set. The Gold Nuggets had 18 kills and hit .536 in the first set against Howard Payne.
