NEW ORLEANS - The Xavier men's basketball team proved their resiliency Saturday, bouncing back from their Thursday night loss to top-25 LSU-Shreveport with a 74-68 win over RRAC foe Texas A&M Texarkana.
XULA (9-4, 6-2) outscored the Eagles (9-6, 6-4) in both halves, and shot 20-for-26 (just under 77 percent) as a team from the free-throw line.
The win was huge in the Gold Rush's RRAC efforts as it kept Xavier in third place and just behind second-place Our Lady of the Lake, a team XULA defeated earlier this season.
A quartet of XULA men scored in double figures on the day. Bentravin Phillips led the team with 19 points, to which he added 6 assists, 2 rebounds, and a steal.
Center Jamal Gibson had another great game down low, posting a 17-point, 14-rebound double-double, his third double-double of the year. He was also good for 5 steals.
Seviuhn Turner scored 14 points, pulled 3 rebounds, made a steal, and blocked one shot, while Elijah Wilson came off the bench and contributed 10 points and 5 rebounds.
Xavier remains at home for its next contest, a Tuesday Red River Athletic Conference game against LSU-Alexandria. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
