PINEVILLE, La. - XULA's women's basketball team rode a strong performance from its bench and a balanced attack from Tiarra Tillison to a convincing, 75-60 conference win over in-state opponent Louisiana Christian Thursday night.
Tillison scored 10 points and dished out a game-high 8 assists, equal to the combined assist output of all LCU players, and the Xavier bench outscored the Lady Cats (2-16, 1-11 RRAC) 41-31.
Xavier (10-7, 7-5 RRAC) was also strong on defense, forcing 26 turnovers, which the Gold Nuggets converted into 24 points.
Four XULA women scored in double figures. Proof of the Gold Nugget bench's performance was found in the fact that the team's top two scorers played in reserve.
Alicia Blanton scored a team-high 17 points, which she paired with 5 rebounds, while Jaleah LaFargue scored 15 points and pulled 6 rebounds.
Fatima Black was good for 10 points and led the team with 8 rebounds.
Rebounding, too, was a strength for the Gold Nuggets, who grabbed an impressive 30 offensive rebounds that amounted to 22 second-chance points.
This was Xavier's fourth consecutive win and third consecutive win on the road.
XULA will remain in Central Louisiana for its next game, a Saturday game at LSU-Alexandria. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
