XULA Women's Rowing made history last weekend, becoming the first HBCU rowing team to compete in the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta in Massachusetts.
The Head of the Charles, held Oct. 16-18 on the Charles River between Cambridge and Boston, is the world's largest regatta. This year, the event attracted more than 2,600 entries from 800-plus clubs competing in a wide variety of events.
Among the throngs of people were the XULA quintet of Diamond Smith, Taylor Kentish, Ashai Bryant, Kamryn Days, and Laila Murchison.
The team, which competed in the women's collegiate fours race, drew immense attention for their groundbreaking participation. CBS Boston. Row2K, and iHeart Radio all featured the Gold Nuggets on their programming, and more media coverage is being planned.
While in Boston, the Gold Nuggets also got to meet some of the Yale women's rowing team that stood up for Title IX and women's rights in sports by demanding better care, the Netherlands' men's team who posted the fastest recorded 2k time on water this past summer, the US Olympic team, world-renowned coaches, the CEO of USRowing, the co-head of JP Morgan, and much, much more!
This is a developing story and will be updated.
