XULA soars in season-opening win over TAMUT

TEXARKANA, Texas - The Gold Nuggets started their 2026-27 campaign with authority here Friday night, defeating host team TAMUT 69-52 in the Eagle Classic.

It could not have gone much better for Xavier (1-0), which leapt out to a 22-8 lead in the first quarter and never looked back,

The unquestioned star of the night was post player Faith Robinson, a graduate student and transfer from Jarvis Christian.

Robinson dominated on both ends of the court and finished with a 25-point, 15-rebound double-double to go along with 2 blocks, 2 assists, and a steal. She was one of several newcomers to make a splash in their first night in Black & Gold.

Jakayla Gilmer, a junior guard and transfer from San Joaquin Delta College, was a force in multiple ways as well. She scored 12 points, dished out 5 assists, made 4 steals, grabbed 3 rebounds, and blocked a shot.

Freshman guard Jade Francis, a native of Houston, made the most of her college debut, scoring 9 points off the bench for Xavier.

Shania Swan, a junior guard playing in her third campaign for Xavier, put up 5 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals. Chantell Barnes, a sophomore forward and transfer from NCAA Division II Albany State, came off the bench to score 5 points and pull 5 rebounds.

All told, the Gold Nuggets shot 45.5 percent from the field, including 40 percent from 3-point range, while holding Texas A&M Texarkana to just 30.2 percent from the field and 15.8 percent from 3-point range and forcing the Eagles into 25 turnovers.

XULA completes its appearance in the Eagle Classic Saturday at 4 p.m. with a neutral-site game against Ave Marie (Fla.).
