Men's Soccer falls to No. 19 William Carey on road

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Xavier men's soccer team fell in Southern States Athletic Conference play Saturday, taking a 4-1 loss to nationally ranked William Carey.

XULA (8-5-2, 6-3-2 SSAC) took 8 shots, 4 of which were on goal, while the Crusaders (12-2-3, 6-2-2 SSAC), the No. 19 team in the nation, took 13 shots with 6 on goal.

The Gold Rush trailed 1-0 at the break after William Carey scored a late first-half goal. WCU added goals in the 46th, 49th, and 79th minutes.

Xavier never gave up, however, and got on the board in the 76th minute with a goal from Antonio Merola, who scored thanks to an assist from Cole Spady.

The Gold Rush's 2026 regular season has reached its end, but the team's adventure continues in the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament. Seeding and first-round host sites will be announced next week, with opening-round matches to be played Oct. 30.
