XULA sweeps Wesleyan for 3rd Consecutive Win

MACON, Ga. - The Gold Nuggets followed one of their most thrilling wins of the season Friday night with one of their most convincing, a 3-0 sweep of Wesleyan in SSAC play on Saturday.

XULA (8-7, 4-3 SSAC), which bested Brewton-Parker in a five-set thriller Friday, defeated Wesleyan 25-10, 25-5, and 25-15. The victory was Xavier's third consecutive overall and Southern States Athletic Conference win.

The Gold Nuggets' attack was a particular strength as Xavier had a .444 success rate in set 1, a .500 percentage in set 2, and a .318 in set 3, for a .423 overall attacking percentage. By comparison, the XULA defense held Wesleyan to a -0.26 showing.

Charlie Henderson had the best offensive showing among Xavier players, scoring 11 total points on 6 kills and 5 service aces.

Kamea Uitenham added 9.5 total points on 9 kills and a block assist. She also contributed 4 digs.

As has become a trend, Karmrynn Williams and Sara Marzinot were both active in setting up Gold Nugget scores. Williams finished with 14 assists, while Marzinot added 13.

Michaela Clayton was the team leader in digs with 11, with Henderson providing 7 digs.

Xavier returns home for its next four matches, the first of which is a Friday showdown with Faulkner. It will be Wellness Night at the Convocation Center, and the match has a 6 p.m. start time.
