Gold Rush fall to Dalton State in SSAC Tournament

The Xavier men's soccer team fell in the SSAC Tournament opening round Friday, losing 2-1 to Dalton State in a closely contested match.

XULA (8-6-2), the tournament's 5-seed, and Roadrunners (11-4-3), who were seeded fourth, played a nearly identical match, with both teams getting 6 shots on goal.

Dalton State scored first, getting a goal in the 55th minute.

Xavier answered in the 68th minute when Benjamin Iglesias scored with an assist from João Pedro, but the Roadrunners connected on the game-winner in the 69th minute.

Goalkeeper Lenno Schmidt made 4 saves in the loss.

The Gold Rush will have to play a waiting game when it comes to the NAIA national tournament. In recent regional indexes, XULA has tracked as a bubble team, so there is still a chance that more soccer awaits the Xavier men.
