Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

More records fall as XULA defeats Andrew 25-0

METAIRIE, La. - Some teams would be pleased to score 51 goals in a season, but the Xavier women's soccer program isn't one of those teams. The Gold Nuggets have now scored that many in just their last three games.

Thursday at Lefreniere Park, the XULA (8-2-2, 7-0-1) racked up nearly half of those goals in a 25-0 win over Andrew (0-8-1, 0-7-1) in Southern States Athletic Conference play.

The win extended Xavier's unbeaten streak to eight matches and marked the team's third consecutive shutout and fifth shutout in its last seven matches.

And for the third consecutive game, the Xavier women's soccer team rewrote portions of the program and conference record books.

The most notable changes came as the Gold Nuggets shattered the program records for most goals, most assists, and largest margin of victory in a single match. Xavier had twice previously defeated a team 16-0, with 16 assists. Now, the mark stands at 25 goals, a 25-0 margin of victory, and 24 assists.

XULA's goal total is tied with two other teams, Williams Carey and Spring Hill, for second-most goals in a game in conference history. The record is 26, set by William Carey in 2024.

But Xavier now holds the SSAC record for most shots in a game with 79, which is 9 more than the previous mark set by Tennessee Southern in 2024.

The Gold Nuggets' point total for the match - calculated based on 2 points per goal and 1 point per assist - was 74, which is the third-highest total in conference history behind a pair of William Carey performances in 2024  (79) and 2025 (75). Twenty-four assists rank as the fourth-highest total in SSAC history.

Individual accomplishments were as numerous as the team achievements.

Anita Roese matched the program record for most goals in a game with 8, which also ties the program mark for most combined goals and assists in a game. She joins Julia Gurgel, the reigning NAIA and SSAC offensive player of the week, atop both lists.

Gurgel was again stellar, scoring 5 goals and dishing out an assist, which ties multiple players for third-most combined goals and assists in program history and is the second-highest goal total to have been posted by any XULA player.

Roese and Gurgel were two of four players to record at least a hat trick on the day, as Alina Paiz had 4 goals and an assist while Eduarda Queiroz scored 3 goals and assisted on 4 more. Queiroz's goal-assist total ranks as second-highest behind Gurgel and Roese.

Speaking of assists, Juliana Kottbauer set a new program record in that category with 5 to go along with a goal.
All told, six Gold Nuggets dished out multiple assists. Joining Kottbauer and Queiroz were Maureen Owusu with 4, Keira Hardstaff with 3, and Millicent Owusu and Shakiana Dagher with 2 apiece.

Hardstaff also scored a pair of goals for Xavier, with Kottbauer, Dagher, and Alba Mendez each scoring a goal in the contest. Mendez and Tatum each registered an assist in the win.

Defensively, the Gold Nuggets had another perfect performance, allowing their opponents no shots for the third straight match.

Goalie Luisa Bella posted her second consecutive clean sheet, marking the third straight game for XULA that a keeper managed that achievement.

Barring any last-minute changes necessitated by the approach of Hurricane Isaias to the Gulf Coast, Xavier's next match will be a Senior Day match against Point on Saturday at 1 p.m.
