Gold Nuggets fall in SSAC Tournament semifinals

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - XULA Women's Soccer took a tough loss Thursday morning, falling 3-0 to William Carey in the Southern States Athletic Conference Championship Tournament semifinals at the Emory Folmar YMCA Complex.

The Gold Nuggets (12-5-2) were competing in their first SSAC tournament, having joined the conference this season. William Carey (16-2-2), the SSAC regular season champion, top seed in the tournament, and No. 10 team in the nation, scored goals in the 19th, 70th, and 85th minutes.

Xavier goalkeeper Aylin Yildirim faced 7 shots on goal and made 4 saves.

While the Gold Nuggets' conference tournament has ended, Xavier is a strong contender for an at-large bid in the upcoming NAIA national tournament.

XULA, which began play in 2023, has never failed to reach the national tournament. The NAIA selection show is scheduled for Nov. 13 at 5 p.m.
