SHREVEPORT, La. - XULA Baseball's first game against the reigning national champions did not go as well as the Gold Rush had hoped, ending in 7 innings and with an 18-0 loss in the team's Red River Athletic Conference opener.
Xavier (2-4, 0-1 RRAC) had a particularly rough showing in the third inning, when the No. 1-ranked Pilots (12-2, 1-0 RRAC) scored 7 runs.
Not all was bad news for the visiting Gold Rush. Three players - Cohen Boyd, Paul Ramseur, and Syr Bailey - managed hits against the always-potent LSU-S battery.
The teams will complete their three-game series Saturday with a doubleheader. First pitch of the early game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
