NEW ORLEANS - The Xavier softball team again showed its mental toughness, but again came up one run short in a 4-3 loss to No. 12 Our Lady of the Lake.
In what was the last of a 3-game series against the Saints (10-1, 3-0 RRAC), the Gold Nuggets (2-9, 0-3 RRAC) took a 3-1 lead, but were unable to hold off an aggressive OLLU team.
The game turned into the best showing of the weekend for XULA batters. Amireeya Malveaux went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Lexi McLin went 2-for-3 with two doubles, 2 RBI, and a run scored.
Essynce Wallace (0-4) took the loss while pitching in relief of Bella Rivera, who worked 5 innings and struck out 3.
Xavier takes to the road next week for a non-conference doubleheader against NCAA Division I opponent Alcorn State in Lorman, Mississippi. First pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday.
