NEW ORLEANS - The Xavier baseball team took a tough, hard-fought loss in its series opener against Texas College, falling 4-3 to the Steers on Friday night.
Xavier's pitching staff put on quite a show, holding a Steers team that scored an astronomical 32 runs in its last outing in check.
Starter Jeremy Clark and reliever Dominik Reimonenq struck out 3 batters apiece on the night.
On offense, several Gold Rush batters had strong performances.
Left fielder Jayden Smith went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored, while third baseman Chase DeLoach went 2-for-3.
Center fielder Cohen Boyd has a double and a run scored, and Charles Carter went 1-for-2.
Xavier and Texas College will wrap their series with a Saturday doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
