MESQUITE, Texas - The Xavier softball team bounced back from an early-morning loss on Day 1 of the NAIA SCS Invitation by defeating Oklahoma Wesleyan 10-7 in the afternoon session.
Xavier lost a 1-run heartbreaker to Tabor Thursday morning, but used a 6-run first inning to set up the big win.
Madelynn Hernandez, T'Auna Fenroy, Amaya Williams, Jada Jones, and Destiny Lavigne led the way for the Gold Nugget offense.
Hernandez went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, Fenroy 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored and 3 batted in, Williams 2-for-4 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored, Jones 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, and Lavigne 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored.
In the circle, Morgan Malveaux (1-1) picked up the win, pitching 4 innings and striking out 2. After McKayla Mandina pitched 2 innings in relief, Essynce Wallace (1) picked up her first save of the season by holding Oklahoma Wesleyan scoreless in the 7th inning.
