MESQUITE, Texas - The Xavier softball team scored often but came up a bit short in the NAIA SCS Invitational on Friday, dropping an 18-11 decision to Ottawa Kanass. 

XULA (2-3) had fallen 3-0 earlier in the day to Friends University, but the offense exploded to life in the second game of the doubleheader. 

Six Gold Nugget batters got 2 hits in the game. 

Lexi McLin, XULA's shortstop and cleanup batter, had the most impressive performance, going 2-for-5 with 2 RBI, a double, and a triple. 

Designated player Amireeya Malveaux went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, while catcher Madelynn Hernandez went 2-for-3 with an RBI. 

Centerfielder Lexi McLin, batting leadoff, went 2-for-4 with an RBI and 3 runs scored. Amaya Williams, starting at first, went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored, and right fielder Jada Jones went 2-for-3 with a run batted in and 2 runs scored. 

Arin Dale, normally a starter but playing in reserve in this game, went 1-for-2 with a triple, 2 RBI, and a run scored. 

Morgan Malveaux struck out 4 pitching in relief, but took the loss.

The Gold Nuggets wrap their tournament Saturday with a single game against Southwestern Christian University. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
