MESQUITE, Texas - The XULA softball team dropped a heartbreaker here Thursday, falling 11-10 to Tabor in the first game of the NAIA SCS Invitational.
Xavier (2-1) fell behind 5-0 in the second inning, but rallied to tie the score in the third. The God Nuggets eventually held a 10-9 advantage, but Tabor (1-0) picked up a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win.
Left fielder Miya Covington had a great game batting leadoff for XULA, going 3-for-5 with an RBI and 3 runs scored.Â
Designated Player Destiny Lavinge went 2-for-3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored, while second baseman Lexi McLin went 2-for-4 with a homerun and 4 RBI. McLin's homer was a 3-run effort in the third.Â
Essynce Wallace struck out 5 in 3 2/3 innings in relief of Bella Rivera, who struck out 2 in a no-decision.Â
The Gold Nuggets' NAIA SCS Invitational trek continues Friday with a noon game against Friends University and a 3:30 p.m. game with Ottawa University of Kansas.Â
