PINEVILLE, La. - Xavier Baseball's visit to nationally ranked Louisiana College got off to a rough start Friday night. The Gold Rush fell to the No. 14 Wildcats 12-2.
XULA (4-14, 2-8 RRAC) led 2-0 after 1½ innings, but LCU (22-5, 7-3 RRAC) scored 7 runs in the second, third, and fourth innings to take a big lead.Â
Offensively, centerfielder Cohen Boyd had a perfect night, going 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI.Â
Third baseman Chase DeLoach was similarly efficient, going 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI, while Bryce Thomas and Kai Higginson added a double apiece.Â
Among the four pitchers employed by the Gold Rush, Charles Carter had the best showing, going 2.1 innings and striking out 3.Â
Xavier and LCU conclude their series with a Saturday doubleheader.
