NEW ORLEANS - The Xavier softball team continues to show a great deal of character, as on Saturday it came within a run of an upset against No. 16 LSU-Alexandria before falling 4-3.
The Gold Nuggets had fell behind 4-0, but launched a spirited comeback in the sixth and seventh innings.
XULA scored 2 runs in the sixth with RBI singles from Miya Covington and Amaya Williams, then pulled within 1 in the bottom of the seventh when Lexi McLin connected on an RBI triple.
However, the Generals were able to register the game's final out before Xavier could get McLin safely home.
The game also featured a wonderful pitching outing by Essynce Wallace, who struck out 6.
Xavier next takes to the road for a three-game Red River Athletic Conference series against Texas A&M Victoria.
