Xavier falls to No. 6 Tennessee Wesleyan at NAIA Blast Off

ROME, Ga. - Xavier Women's Tennis' final day at the NAIA Blast Off Tournament ended with a 4-0 loss to No. 6 Tennessee Wesleyan.

The Gold Nuggets (9-5), ranked No. 4 in the nation, had some flashes of brilliance against Tennessee Wesleyan (11-1).

Although XULA did not earn the doubles point, the No. 1 pairing of Maja Brnic and McKenna Wheatley earned a 6-2 win over Olivia Alcala and Ana Serrano.

Brnic was also performing well against Ruslana Kovalenko at No. 1 singles, and enjoyed a 3-0 advantage in a tie-breaking third set when the match was called after Tennessee Wesleyan secured the fourth point.

Xavier, which has played five consecutive Top 50 opponents, will continue its string of top-flight competition Thursday with a home match against Missouri Baptist, which is currently ranked No. 36 in the NAIA by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
