XULA offensive explosion not quite enough against A&M Victoria

VICTORIA, Texas - The Gold Nuggets put up good offensive numbers but were unable to get the win Saturday, dropping a 12-7 decision to Texas A&M Victoria in conference play.

The game was tied 6-6 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, but a six-run showing for the Jaguars proved the difference.

Offensively, the Gold Nuggets had a strong showing, putting up 13 hits.

Morgan Malveaux, who also started at pitcher, lead with way with a 3-for-4 performance that included a triple, a double, 3 RBI, and a run scored.

Third baseman Lexi McLin, who had a strong series, went 3-for-4 with a home run, 3 runs scored, and 3 RBI.

Right fielder Jada Jones also went 3-for-4, and added a pair of runs scored and an RBI, while Desitny Lavigne went 2-for-2 with a run scored, and Amaya Williams 1-for-3 with a double.

XULA has another tough challenge on the horizon. Tuesday, the Gold Nuggets travel to Baton Rouge for a doubleheader against NCAA Division I opponent Southern University. First pitch of Game 1 is scheduled for 3 p.m.
