Gold Nuggets show great fight in doubleheader loss to NCAA D1 Southern

BATON ROUGE, La. - The Gold Nuggets continue to show that they can hang with anyone, but fell in a pair of close games in a midweek doubleheader against NCAA Division I opponent Southern University. 

Xavier fell 2-1 in Game 1 and 6-2 in Game 2. 

Pitcher Morgan Malveaux has a strong showing in the first half of the doubleheader, allowing just 4 hits and striking out 5. 

Amaya Williams and Lexi McLin went 1-for-3 apiece to lead the offense, with Williams scoring a run on an RBI by Arin Dale. 

In the second game, Jada Jones went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI, while Madison Williams went 1-for-2 with a run scored. Catcher Madelyn Hernandez scored the other run for XULA. 

Pitchers Bella Rivera and Essynce Wallace combined to strike out 5 Jaguars. 

Xavier will remain in the Capital City for their next pair of contests, which will take the form of a doubleheader against Baton Rouge Community College on Thursday.
