XULA makes it 3 in a row, sweep doubleheader from Jarvis

NEW ORLEANS - The Xavier softball team built off its Thursday-night win over Baton Rouge Community College with a doubleheader sweep of Jarvis Christian in Red River Athletic Conference play Friday morning.

The Gold Nuggets picked up wins of 6-1 and 8-2, and built a season-high three-game winning streak in the process.

Offensively and defensively, Friday marked XULA"s most complete day of the season.

In the first game, Lexi McLin was an offensive juggernaut, going 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI, 3 runs scored, and an incredible 4 steals.

Base stealing was a particular strength for the Gold Nuggets, who collected 16 over the two games. Niya Threadcraft, who went 1-for-2 in the first game, had two steals in that contest.

Morgan Malveau (5-6), who picked up the win in the circle, pulled double duty in the first game and made good at the plate as well, going 2-for-3. Malveaux and Bella Rivera, who picked up the save, struck out a combined 10 batters, 6 for Malveaux and 4 for Rivera, in the game while allowing six combined hits.

In the second game, the good times got even better for Xavier at the plate.

Aaliyah Brown, playing at first base, led the way with a 2-for-3, 3-RBI performance that included a double. Malveaux and Amaya Williams also contributed doubles.

Jada Jones (3), Williams (2), and Morgan Jackson
(2) all had multiple steals in Game 2. Jackson's steals came in succession and led to a run in the second inning. Essynce Wallace picked up her first win of the season in the circle.

Xavier and Jarvis Christian wrap their series with a single game Saturday at noon. The contest has been moved from Park of Heroes to John Curtis Christian. The address for Saturday's game is 10931 Jefferson Hwy. in River Ridge.
