NEW ORLEANS - The Gold Nuggets extended their winning streak to four games and picked up their first series sweep of the season here Saturday with a 4-1 win over Jarvis Christian in Red River Athletic Conference play.
Morgan Malveaux (6-6) had another strong showing in the circle and at the plate. She picked up the win while striking out 7 and allowing just 3 hits in 4 innings of work. She also batted clean-up for Xavier and went 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI. Essynce Wallace picked up the save, her third of the season, after working the game's final 3 innings.
Leadoff batter and left fielder Jada Jones was also productive, going 2-for-3 with 2 steals and 2 runs scored, while shortstop Amaya Williams went 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI.
Lexi McLin, who had an incredible stretch of games over the last six days, capped her week with a 1-for-3 showing that included a double.
Base-running remained a strength for Xavier. A day after racking up 16 steals over two games, the team got three more swipes.
XULA, which has played seven games over the past six days, gets a slight break before returning to action Thursday, April 2, with a home RRAC doubleheader against Southwest (N.M.). First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
