XULA sweeps conference doubleheader against LCU

PINEVILLE, La. - The Xavier softball team put together its most impressive performance of the season Friday, sweeping a doubleheader from in-state and conference foe Louisiana Christian.

The mark of any good team is the ability to win in numerous ways, and the Gold Nuggets showed an ability to outduel an opponent in a defensive and offensive contest.

In Game 1, which XULA won 1-0, a sixth-inning hit by Jada Jones proved the difference, a Kyliegh Peebles was able to score the go-ahead run .

Jones, Amireeya Malveaux, Arin Dale, and Amaya Williams each had a hit in the first game.

Pitching was also strong in the first game, as Morgan Malveaux (3-2) picked up the win after going 5 strong innings with 4 strikeouts and just one hit allowed. Essynce Wallace picked up her second save of the year with a 2-inning showing during which she struck out 1 batter with no hits surrendered.

The XULA bats came alive in a big way in the second game, as the Gold Nuggets amassed 8 hits.

Jones went 4-for-5 with 3 doubles and 2 RBI, while Miya Covington went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, and Morgan Malveaux was good for a double and 2 RBI.

The wins for Xavier came a critical time, as the team pulled its Red River Athletic Conference record to 2-3.

XULA and LCU conclude their series on Saturday at 9 a.m., a game with an early start time to account for expected rainfall Saturday afternoon in Central Louisiana.
