NEW ORLEANS, La. - The No. Gold Rush won a premier NAIA national matchup Saturday, defeating No. 10 Our Lady of the Lake 4-0 in a battle Top-15's.
Xavier (7-4), which entered the match ranked No. 11 in the nation, won the No. 2 and 3 doubles matches and claimed the point in that category. Then, the Gold Rush won the first three singles matches to claim the win.
In the doubles matches, No. 2 pair Martin Rivera and Gabriel Velez defeated Louis Bocquet and Gabriel Nogueira 6-1, while No. 3 pair Edilson Rosa and Samy Dahmany defeated Corentin Fusaro and Jacob Gailey 6-2.
In the singles matches, Xavier's points came from Nereo Suarez defeating Nogueira 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, Christian Sanchez defeating Jaroslav Majsajdr 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2, and Emmanuel Jebutu defeating Eliot Costa 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3
Next up for the Gold Rush is a Wednesday home match against Drury, a non-conference opponent.
