Xavier falls by 1 in battle of Top 10s

NEW ORLEANS - The No. 9 Xavier men's tennis team lost a heartbreaker to No. 6 William Carey in the regular-season finale Sunday.
 
XULA claimed the doubles point after Nereo Suarez and Christian Sanchez defeated Vinh Nguyen and Jean Nicolas Leblanc 6-3 at No. 1, and Martin Rivera and Gabrieal Velez defeated Simon Muntwyler and Artur Ibragimov 6-3 at No. 3. 

Suarez, who was honored as part of Senior Day, had a huge day for the Gold Rush. In addition to this showing in doubles, Suarez defeated Nguyen 7-6(5), 7-5 in a hard-fought match at No. 1 singles. 

The other point for XULA came from Emmanuel Jebutue, who defeated Ibragimov 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. 

Next up for the Gold Rush will be hosting the 2026 Men's Tennis XULA Invitational, a postseason tournament featuring teams from multiple conferences. Matches are slated for April 16-18.
