Gold Rush down Dillard to win 2026 XULA Invite

NEW ORLEANS - Xavier Men's Tennis faced a staunch challenge from in-city rival and No. 12 Dillard, but the Gold Rush gutted out a 4-3 victory and won the 2026 Men's Tennis XULA Invitational.

The No. 9 Gold Rush (16-7) had to hard-earn their title, though, as Dillard won the doubles point and took Xavier to third sets at both No. 1 and No. 2 singles. However, a sweep of 1-4 in individual play was enough to give XULA the win.

In doubles play, Nereo Suarez and Christian Sanchez, the No. 5 pairing in the NAIA, defeated Siddharth Arya and Ilyas Kouchari 6-3. Suarez then outdueled Arya 7-6(3), 3-6, 6-1 at No. 1.

Sanchez, though, had the big moment of the day, when he defeated Top 50 opponent Nour Ibrahim 6-3, 6-7(3), 6-3 at No. 2.

The Gold Rush's other two points came by virtue of Emmanuel Jebutu defeating Tarique Bobia 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3, and Edilson Rosa defeating Undrakh Purevdorj 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4.

Xavier will next participate in the NAIA national tournament, the seeding for which will be announced on April 28.
