XULA completes series sweep of Southwest (N.M.)

WESTWEGO, La. - The Gold Nuggets' hot streak continued Thursday with two wins and a series sweep of Southwest (N.M.) in RRAC play. 

XULA picked up wins of 5-4 and 7-3, which represented their sixth and seventh consecutive victories, and their second consecutive conference series win. 

The day featured numerous thrilling moments for Xavier, which picked up its Game 1 win in walkoff fashion when, in an extra inning, Morgan Malveaux scored when Lexi McLin reached on an error. 

Malveaux, who had a dominant series both in the circle and at the plate, played third base in both games. In Game 1, she went 2-for-4 with a double, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored. McLin went 1-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI. 

Right fielder Destiny Lavigne went 1-for-3 with an RBI, and leadoff batter Jada Jones went 1-for-4 with a run scored. 

In the circle, the Gold Nuggets got a great showing from Bella Rivera, who pitched six innings and struck out 5. Essynce Wallace, who pitched the seventh and eighth innings, picked up the win in relief after allowing no runs. 

Wallace (4-6), who pitched the entirety of Game 2, was the winning pitcher in both contests. In her second outing of the day, Wallace (4-6) struck out three and scattered 8 hits. 

XULA's offense was again potent, and the Gold Nuggets used a 6-run second inning to set up the win. 

Malveaux went 1-for-2 with an RBI, while McLin went 2-for-3 and Jones went 1-for-3 with a double, 2 RBI, and a run scored.

Xavier returns to action on Friday, April 10, with a visit to Texas A&M-San Antonio. The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday with a single game on Saturday.
