Softball puts on pitching, defensive clinic in doubleheader sweep of Dillard

NEW ORLEANS - The Gold Nuggets picked up a pair of their biggest wins of the season on Wednesday, sweeping a doubleheader from in-city rival Dillard. 

Xavier allowed no runs and just 3 bombine hits on the day and defeated the Bleu Devils 1-0 in a 10-inning contest, then 2-0. 

Pitcher Essynce Wallace put on an absolute show in Game 1, working a 10-inning 1-hitter with 2 strikeouts and 3 walks. 

Freshman hurler Bella Rivera was almost unhittable and picked up the win in Game 2 after working a complete-game 2-hitter that featured a jaw-dropping 12 strikeouts.

The XULA defense had its pitcher's back, routinely making major plays at key times, including double plays to prevent runs in the 8th, 9th, and 10th innings. 

Lexi McLin was the hero of Game 1 on the offensive side, connecting on a 10th-inning RBI double that scored Amaya Williams and set up. 

Center fielder Miya Covington went 2-for-3 in Game 1. 

In Game 2, senior right fielder Arin Dale was on fire, going 3-for-3 with 3 doubles and both of the game's RBI. Williams and McLin wach went 1-for-2 with a run scored and a double apiece. 

Next up for XULA is a conference road trip to Texas College for a three-game series with the Steers. The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
