Softball drops 2 against US Sports University

LULING, La. - The Xavier softball team suffered a pair of tough losses Tuesday in its regular-season-ending doubleheader against the United States Sports University.

In Game 1, the Gold Nugget pitching duo of Morgan Malveaux and Essynce Wallace worked a combined 4-hitter, but XULA couldn't quite close the gap in a 2-1 loss. Malveaux and Wallace struck out three batters apiece.

Offensively, left fielder Jada Jones was the star, going 3-for-3 with a run scored. Second baseman Lexi McLin went 1-for-2, and catcher Madelynn Hernandez, who entered the game as a reserve in the sixth inning, went 1-for-1.

A rough sixth inning proved the difference in the second game, as XULA fell 11-3.

Senior right fielder Arin Dale had a great game at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run, 2 RBI, and a run scored.

Shortstop Amaya Williams, a junior, was also strong, with a 3-for-4 showing, while Destiny Lavigne, who started at second in the second game, went 1-for-3 with a double. Jones went 1-for-1 with a run scored.

Xavier's regular season has now concluded, but there is more season to play.

The Gold Nuggets are the 6-seed in the RRAC conference tournament and are scheduled to play the 3-seeded Texas A&M-Texarkana in the opening round. That game, which will take place at the Champions Sportsplex in Lecompte, near the campus of LSU-Alexandria, is scheduled for Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
