XULA ties Campbellsville in Alabama

VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. - Tuesday morning, the Gold Nuggets twice came from behind to secure a 2-2 tie with Campbellsville on a neutral pitch.

The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half, and Campbellsville (1-0-1) took the lead in the 71st minute.

However, XULA (1-0-1) answered less than 5 minutes later with a goal by Jayla Renter that came courtesy of an assist by Shakiana Dagher.

The Tigers reclaimed the lead quickly, scoring in the game's 76th minute, but Xavier was equal to the task and evened the score for good at the 87:51 mark with an unassisted goal by Julia Gurgel.

Gurgel, a junior transfer from Miami Dade College, has been impressive in her short time with the Gold Nuggets. She has scored a goal in each of her first two matches.

Aylin Yildirim, a freshman from Winterthur, Switzerland, made her college debut and was the goalie for XULA.

Next up for Xavier will be a home match against SCAD Savannah. The game is scheduled for Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Metairie's Lafreniere Park.
