Volleyball brings fight but falls 3-1 to Williams Carey

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Gold Nuggets gave traditional Southern States Athletic Conference power William Carey a tough challenge Friday night, but ultimately fell 3-1 to the Crusaders on the road. 

Xavier (5-5, 1-1 SSAC) fell 25-19 in the first set, but rallied to defeat William Carey 25-13 in the second, before losing in the third and fourth sets. 

Outside hitter Kamea Uitenham was the most productive player for the Xavier attack, producing 11 kills on the night. Kennedy Campbell added 9 kills and Laila Person 6. 

Setter Kamrynn Williams led the team with 20 assists, with Felise Jones adding 14. 

Beatrice Giusti was tops for the Gold Nuggets with 11 digs, while Charlie Henderson and Williams added 9 and 8 digs, respectively. Jordyn Dennis added 7 digs, playing in reserve. 

Zoie Mayberry has a solo block and a pair of block assists. 

XULA continues its road trip Saturday at noon with a visit to the University of Mobile.
