Gold Nuggets fall in offensive showcase versus #16 John Brown

METAIRIE, La. - The Xavier women's soccer team proved it belongs on the field with the best teams in the nation, going blow-for-blow with No. 16 John Brown in a match that eventually went to JBU 4-3. 

XULA got off 13 total shots, 9 on goal, compared to 16 total shots with 6 on goal by John Brown. 

The Gold Nuggets, who faced their second consecutive nationally ranked opponent, took the lead in 32st minue on an unassisted goal by Shakiana Dagher. 

John Brown leveled the score early in the second half, but Xavier answered with a 51st-minute goal by Alba Mendez, who was assisted by Julia Gurgel. 

XULA fell behind after back-to-back goals by JBU, but connected on an unassisted goal in the 81st minute. 

Addie Craig, who scored two goals for John Brown, scored the game-winner in the 84th minute. 

Next up for the Gold Nuggets will be the start of SSAC play in the form of a Thursday, Sept. 10, home match against Thomas (Ga.). The match will take place in Lafreniere Park with a 1 p.m. first kick.
