Kevin Chaouat is in his fifth year with the Xavier University of Louisiana tennis program and his second on the coaching staff. Chaouat is a men's and women's assistant coach in 2017-18.
As a member of the staff in 2016-17, Chaouat helped the Gold Rush finish second at the NAIA National Championship and he was selected the ITA/NAIA Region IV Men's Assistant Coach of the Year. Chaouat also helped the XULA women earn a No. 10 final NAIA national ranking.
"Kevin was a great addition to my staff last year," XULA head coach and Director of Tennis Alan Green said. "His coaching knowledge on the court has been exceptional, and he has also been an exceptional recruiter. Our men's team in 2017 directly benefited from Kevin's recruiting efforts.
"Kevin has been very dependable for us, staying on top of our guys and helping them be successful on and off the court. Kevin has also been helpful during matches with on-court adjustments that have enabled us to win duals."
Chaouat played his final three seasons of college tennis at XULA, and as a senior in the spring of 2016 he was named to the ITA's NAIA All-America team after earning a No. 4 final national doubles ranking with Thomas Setodji.
Chaouat played No. 1 doubles and No. 4 singles for the 2016 Gold Rush team that finished second at nationals — it was the first XULA team in any sport to reach the title round of an NAIA national tournament — and he helped XULA reach the quarterfinals in 2015 and 2014.
Born in Paris and a longtime resident of Sarcelles, France, Chaouat began his collegiate career at Embry-Riddle (Fla.), where he helped the Eagles win the 2013 NAIA national title. Chaouat was 22-5 in doubles that year and won 17 in a row with Simon Felix — including an 8-2 decision against XULA's Nikita Soifer and Viktor Svoboda which was the only loss in Soifer and Svoboda's final 16 matches.
As an amateur, Chaouat won four regional tournament titles and advanced to the semifinals of the French junior championships.
A business management major, Chaouat received his bachelor of science degree from XULA in May 2017.
