Xavier defeats St. Thomas (Fla.), improves to 3-0

Box Score      NEW ORLEANS — Senior guard Michael Harvey scored a season-high 16 points Friday to lead NAIA No. 20 Xavier University of Louisiana to a 79-58 men's basketball victory over St. Thomas (Fla.) at The Barn.
     The Gold Rush, 3-0 for the ninth consecutive season, avenged a 79-61 road loss to the Bobcats (0-1) from last season.
     Anthony Simmons scored 13 points, Denzell Erves 12 — he was 4-of-4 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the line — and Devin Andrew 11 for Xavier, which led 36-24 at halftime.
     Eugene Davis scored 14 points for St. Thomas, and Robert Ford and Everson Lacerda had 10 apiece.
     Xavier outshot St. Thomas 58 to 28 percent from the floor.
     Xavier's next game will start at 7 p.m. Thursday against Jarvis Christian at The Barn. St. Thomas will stay in town and visit Loyola at 7 p.m. Saturday.
