MOBILE, Ala. — Kelly Sherling had 14 kills,
six digs and a career-high four aces Thursday to lead Mobile to a 25-19, 25-20,
25-10 women's volleyball victory over Xavier University of Louisiana.
The Gold Nuggets (4-6) lost for the third consecutive
match despite leads of 5-0 in the first set and 4-2 in the third set.
Charlotte Stutts had 14 digs and Christa Hicks 10
for the Lady Rams (5-2), who have won three straight.
Sierra Lyons and
Erin Vincent led Xavier with four
kills apiece.
Patrice Hightower and
Joyy Joseph had five digs apiece, and
Iva Bobkova served two of the Nuggets' five aces.
Mobile, a qualifier for the NAIA National Championship
the past three seasons, served eight aces and outhit the Nuggets .325 to .065.
The Lady Rams had advantages of 37-25 in digs and 6-0 in blocks. This was the
first volleyball meeting between Mobile and Xavier.
Xavier will play Friday against Faulkner at noon and
Birmingham-Southern at 2:30 p.m. in the BSC Fall Classic at Birmingham, Ala.
