Taylor Reuther had 15 kills and
hit a season-best .560 Monday to lead Xavier University of Louisiana to a
25-7, 25-15, 25-11 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference women's volleyball victory
against Fisk.
The Gold Nuggets (8-7 overall, 2-0 GCAC) have won 30
consecutive matches against conference opponents, which includes eight
tournament matches. Xavier's regular-season win streak in the GCAC is 24.
Reuther, the 2012 GCAC Player of the Year, had one
error in 25 attacks and led an offense which hit .354, Xavier's second-highest
mark of the season.
Chinedu Echebelem had six kills, and
Jodi Hill and Moira
Kirk had five apiece. Kirk hit .625 in eight attacks.
Jamese Grant had five kills for Fisk (3-8, 1-2),
which hit minus-.071. It was the second straight match that an XU opponent
produced more attack errors than kills.
Xavier had advantages of 39-14 in kills, 8-1 in aces,
32-21 in digs and 5-2 in blocks.
Emily Reuther, Taylor's younger sister,
served three aces, and Kirk served two.
Jodi Chatters and Echebelem had six digs apiece for
the Gold Nuggets.
Xavier scored the first nine points and 13 of the
first 14. Kirk had three kills during a 9-2 run which erased Fisk's 9-8
lead in the middle set. The Gold Nuggets opened the final set with an 8-1
run and closed the match when Chatters' dig crossed the net and landed untouched.
Xavier will play city rival Loyola at 7 p.m.
Wednesday in the Convocation Center to conclude a 3-match home stand.
The next conference match will be Sept. 28 at Edward Waters.
