GEORGETOWN, Ky. — Xavier University of Louisiana
lost to Trinity Christian, then defeated Asbury in a pair of four-set women's
volleyball matches Friday at the Rumpke Invitational.
Trinity Christian, winning for the seventh time in a row,
defeated the Gold Nuggets 25-17, 25-17, 25-27, 25-16. But Xavier snapped its
three-match losing streak by beating Asbury for the second time this season:
21-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-23.
Taylor Reuther had 14 kills and 13 digs against
Trinity Christian, and
Chinedu Echebelem had 13 kills and 13 digs.
Moira Kirk hit .400 against Asbury and led the Gold Nuggets with 19 kills and five blocks.
Reuther had 13 kills, three aces and 17 digs, and Echebelem had nine kills and 12 digs.
Against Asbury, Xavier trailed 19-13 in the fourth set
before rallying to end the match.
Xavier will play Saturday at 1:30 p.m. EDT against Lourdes
and at 5:30 against NAIA No. 7 Georgetown (Ky.) in a rematch of last year's
NAIA National Championship opening round, which Georgetown won in four sets.
