NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's
Khalil McCoy was announced Monday as a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete
in Division I men's basketball for the 2018-19 academic year.
McCoy qualified for the honor by having a
minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4-point scale and reaching junior academic status.
McCoy is a sophomore from Suwanee, Ga. — he redshirted
with the Gold Rush in 2016-17 — and a graduate of Newnan High School.
McCoy is in his first year in XULA's College of Pharmacy. He was one
of the Gold Rush's most accurate 3-point shooters this past season,
making 13-of-29 for 44.8 percent.
McCoy is the second from XULA to earn this
award in this sport. Jamaan Kenner (2010-11) was first.
There were 74 Division I men honored as Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
McCoy was one of two cited from the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference.
