NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana men's basketball increased
its season-best win streak to five games in an 88-41 Saturday victory against Carver.
XULA (7-1) extended its home win streak to 18 games
and produced its largest winning margin since a 122-71 home decision against Wesley (Miss.)
on Nov. 6, 2007.
Rayshawn Mart scored 29 points — 22 in the first
half — for XULA.
Makye Richard scored 16,
Cory Wells 14 and
Jeremy Lindsey nine.
The victory was the 100th for
Alfred Williams in six seasons as a college
head coach. Williams was 14-17 during the 2015-16 season at Harris-Stowe and is 86-50 in his fifth season
at XULA.
Mart reached 20 points for the sixth time in
eight games this season, scored his most points ever in a XULA home game and produced
no turnovers in slightly less than 27 minutes. Mart also had five rebounds, two assists and four steals.
Richard scored in double figures for
the seventh consecutive game, extended his streak of consecutive free throws made to 14
and became the first XULA man in eight seasons to produce six steals in a game.
Wells scored 12 first-half points, and his game total was his season high.
Lindsey matched his season high for points. Also filling the stat sheet was
Corey Dunning with seven points,
six rebounds, six blocks and two steals. Dunning is the first XULA freshman to block
six shots in a game.
Mart scored 14 points and Wells seven during a 5 1/2-minute 25-2 surge
that gave XULA a 44-13 lead at 3:43 of the first half.
XULA led 52-22 at halftime — the second straight home game that XULA led by 30-or-more at the break —
and by 55 twice in the second half, the last time at 86-31 during the 37th minute.
Bryson Scott had 11 points and six rebounds for
Carver (0-24) but also committed 10 of his team's 33 turnovers.
It was the first time since December 1972 that
the XULA men produced 40-point winning margins in consecutive home games.
XULA's next game will tip off at 5 p.m.
Thursday at home against Tougaloo in the second game of a doubleheader.
