Xavier University of Louisiana men's basketball won two awards Monday.
Freshman guard
Lance Williams was chosen Red River Athletic Conference
Player of the Week, and
Alfred Williams was selected the NAIA
recipient of HoopDirt.com's Coach of the Week Award presented by Just Play Solutions.
Lance — from Baton Rouge, La., and
a graduate of St. Michael High School — and Alfred are not related.
XULA's only game of the reporting period —
Dec. 6-12 — was an 84-57 home victory against William Carey.
It's XULA's largest-ever winning margin in its 88-game series with the Crusaders.
Lance Williams highlights:
• Scored a career- and game-high 23 points.
• Made five consecutive 3s in a first-half span
of 5:38 to help XULA increase its lead from 17-12 to 34-22.
• Finished with seven made 3s,
the most in a game by a XULA freshman since 1989 and one less than the XULA overall record.
Alfred Williams highlights:
• It was his 100th victory as XULA's head coach. Williams is 100-55 (.645) in six seasons.
• It was his team's fourth victory of the season
by 20-or-more points.
• His teams have won
29 of their last 36 games, 38 of their last 46 and 44 of their last 53.
• His teams have won 26 of their last 29 home games.
XULA is 7-1 with a six-game winning streak
and ranked 22nd in the NAIA.
