Red River Athletic Conference standings
METAIRIE, La. —
Xavier University of Louisiana scored five first-half goals in nine minutes Sunday morning
and cruised to a 7-0 Red River Athletic Conference women's soccer victory
against Huston-Tillotson.
The Gold Nuggets (9-4 overall, 9-2 RRAC)
climbed to a half-game behind leader LSU-Alexandria. XULA will visit LSUA at 1 p.m. Thursday.
Amora Altmon launched XULA's scoring barrage with
a goal at 23:57. Faye Butterwoth and
Amelia Thompson followed with goals,
and
Amelia Suma scored the next two to give the Gold Nuggets a 5-0 halftime lead.
Butterworth scored again in the 56th minute,
and Suma scored in the 80th minute for her first hat trick and XULA's
fourth this season.
The shutout was the Gold Nuggets' fourth in their debut
season and their second in a row. XULA gave Huston-Tillotson (3-11, 3-8)
its largest shutout loss in an RRAC game since 2013.
XULA freshman goaltender
Luisa Bella played all 90 minutes and extended to 350 her active streak of
consecutive minutes without allowing a goal.
It was XULA's final regular-season game
at Lafreniere Park, and seniors
Sierra Bryant and
Nuela Fonmedig were honored in a postgame ceremony.
If XULA finishes in the top four in the RRAC regular season — there are two games
remaining — the Gold Nuggets would play host to a quarterfinal game Nov. 3 or 4
in the RRAC Tournament.
XULA seniors Sierra Bryant, second from left, and Nuela Fonmedig, fifth from left, were honored in a postmatch ceremony.
