NEW ORLEANS —
Xavier University of Louisiana's
Luci Schroeder and
Theresa Wiesiolek
were named Monday as Red River Athletic Conference weekly award winners in women's soccer.
Schroeder won RRAC Offensive Player of the Week, and Wiesiolek received
Defensive Player of the Week for Oct. 23-29. It's the first time they've been honored.
Schroeder, a junior midfielder from
Samtens, Germany, produced points in the Gold Nuggets' 1-0 road victories at
LSU-Alexandria and Louisiana Christian. Schroeder
assisted on
Amora Altmon's goal against LSUA, and —
in the 72nd minute Saturday against LCU — scored the goal that clinched XULA's
Red River Athletic Conference regular-season championship and automatic
bid to NAIA nationals.
For the season Schroeder leads XULA in
total points (33) and assists (11) and is second in goals (11).
The formula for total points: two for each goal, one for each assist.
Wiesiolek, a junior goalkeeper from Karlsruhe, Germany,
was in goal for both road shutouts. She had 11 total saves, six against LSUA, and she extended
the Gold Nuggets' streak of consecutive shutouts to four.
XULA, 11-4 and a first-year varsity program,
will play host to Southwest (N.M.) at 1 p.m. Friday at Lafreniere Park in suburban Metairie, La.,
in the opening round of the RRAC Championships
presented by Farmers Bank & Trust. Admission is free.
