Red River Athletic Conference standings
HAWKINS, Texas — Xavier University of Louisiana's seven-game men's soccer winning streak ended Saturday, but not its standing atop the Red River Athletic Conference.
The Gold Rush (7-2 overall, 6-1 RRAC) are in a four-way tie for first place despite a 2-1 loss at Jarvis Christian. XULA got an assist from LSU-Shreveport, whose 2-0 home victory against Louisiana Christian gave the Wildcats their first conference loss.
Also 6-1 in the RRAC are Texas A&M-San Antonio — which gained a share of the lead after its 1-0 home victory against city rival Our Lady of the Lake — and Houston-Victoria, a 1-0 winner at Paul Quinn.
Jarvis Christian (4-3-2, 2-2-2) became the first regular-season opponent to score twice against the Gold Rush in a half. The Bulldogs got a penalty-kick goal from Johan Arevalo in the 25th minute and another goal from Arturo Gonzalez in the final minute of the first half — Arevalo assisted — to take a 2-0 lead.
      Â
Gustavo Oliveira scored XULA's goal — his team-leading eighth of the season — in the 56th minute. Winning goalkeeper Juan Mora preserved the decision — the Bulldogs' first victory in five games — with a save of
Leonardo Menzen's penalty kick in the 88th minute.
Joining Menzen and Oliveira in XULA's starting lineup were
Juan Braz,
Eduardo dos Santos,
Caleb Evans,
Julio Gruba,
Sebastian Pinto,
Fabricio Reis,
Ignacio Solorza,
Caio Tascheto and
Breno Zanolla.
XULA will return to the road next week for RRAC games against Our Lady of the Lake Thursday and Texas A&M-San Antonio Saturday. Both will start at 3:30 p.m.
