Temperature's rising; XULA-record 98.6 at Battle in the Big Easy

        NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana cheer scored 98.6 points, a school record, Thursday against Concordia (Mich.) in the Battle in the Big Easy competitive cheer and dance meet at XULA's Convocation Center.
        The previous XULA high was 96.3 in an NAIA Unaffiliated Group Championship meet Feb. 19, 2022.
        Concordia, the 2019 NAIA national champion, scored 92.6.
        XULA is 11-0 in 2023 — 44-0 since the start of 2022 — and gave Concordia (17-1) its first loss this season.
        XULA will compete at 12:10 p.m. Friday on the second and final day of this meet — a seven-team matchup with Concordia, Langston, Montreat, Our Lady of the Lake, Saint Francis (Ind.) and Williams Baptist — then play host to Dillard, Jarvis Christian and Montreat Saturday morning in an NAIA Unaffiliated Group Championship meet.
        On Saturday XULA will attempt to qualify for nationals for the third consecutive year; XULA was the 2022 NAIA national champion.
