Coaches poll of March 22, 2023
        PENSACOLA, Fla. — 
 Xavier University of Louisiana men's tennis, playing a top-12 opponent 
  for the ninth time this season, lost 6-1 Saturday to West Florida.
	
        The Argonauts (12-2) are ranked seventh in
 NCAA Division II and have a 20-match home win streak. The Gold Rush (13-6) are No. 9 in the NAIA.
 	
         
Julius Hell won twice 
  for XULA. Hell and 
Mathieu Strauss won 6-3 at No. 2 doubles against 
	Albin Ekenros and Adam Svensson. Hell defeated 
	 Bernardo Costa 7-5, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
	
          Since enrolling at XULA in January,
	 Hell, a freshman from Pforzheim, Germany, is 15-1 in singles and won his last 11.
	 
	         XULA had a great chance to win the
	  doubles point, but Costa and Enzo Silveira won a 9-7 tiebreaker against
		 
Guillermo Coiras and 
Dedric Ray on court three. At No. 6 singles, 
		  
Jered Wilson lost 10-4 to Silveira in a third-set super-tiebreaker.
 
		
		        The Gold Rush will play host to
		 NAIA No. 7 William Carey at noon CDT Saturday (April 1).
		 
		         
NOTES:  XULA 
		is 4-5 this season against top-12 teams and has three victories against NAIA top-10 opponents . . .  
			  The Gold Rush dropped one spot to No. 9
			  in the NAIA coaches poll announced Wednesday. 
				The XULA men are 			 in the top 10 for the 14th consecutive time
 and the 97th time in the last 100 polls. The Gold Rush are in the top 25 for the 127th consecutive time —  
 the longest active streak in NAIA men's tennis. That streak began April 4, 2007.
