MARION, Ind. — A dropped baton during a first-heat exchange in the 400-meter relay preliminaries disqualified Xavier University of Louisiana at the 2023 NAIA Men's Outdoor Track and Field National Championship.
That was the lone Gold Rush event Wednesday.
Multnomah was the fastest qualifier in 40.05, three-hundredths of a second faster than No. 2 Indiana Tech. Colin Rowe, Winston Young, Maurice Green and Coulaj Eans were XULA's relay members.
Seth Alexander, who will compete Friday in the triple jump, was the Gold Rush representative when the NAIA honored Champions of Character athletes during opening ceremonies. Each team at the meet with significant numbers of qualifiers can nominate one recipient who best exemplifies the Champions of Character traits of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership.
The Gold Rush's Thursday events — times Eastern Daylight:
        •  2:30 p.m. — Eans in long jump
        •  2:50 p.m. — Damoy Boyd in 800 preliminaries
        •  4:20 p.m. — Rowe in 400 preliminaries
        •  4:30 p.m. — Damien Trahan in high jump
